How to sell - Appraisals & Consulting

How to sell
Give us a call or e-mail us so that we can determine the best marketplace for your items, whether they be consigned to auction or brokered privately.

We are available by appointment to give verbal estimates. If objects are too large to transport or the collection is too large, we are happy to visit your home.

Before the auction, we draw up a contract that includes an auction estimate and start bid for each item.

Online Auctions
Caroline Ashleigh Associates holds online auctions approximately four times a year. Everything sold is guaranteed for authenticity and the site has a reputation for excellence. Sellers are handpicked and have long careers in the Art and Antiques business. With this strong community of sellers come buyers from all over the world.

Our goal is to help you achieve the highest possible price for your objects by reaching as broad an audience as possible for you. We believe that selling your property with our firm brings a far greater price than if your property were in a traditional auction.

Unlike many other online auctions, there is a two-day auction preview just prior to the close of the online sale, where clients can view all lots in the sale. This allows potential buyers to view the objects first hand and generate local interest in the sale.

Targeted Marketing and Promotion

  • Full page illustrated ads in antique trade journals and ads in regional and local newspapers
  • Direct mailings to 2500 customers announcing upcoming sales
  • 2-3 week exposure and an e-mail announcement to our buyer base
  • Professional photographs of each object, as many as 6 per lot
  • Targeted e-mails with links to our online sale

Commission
Our commission is competitive. Contact us for information.

Settlement
Settlement is made by check 45 business days after the sale, subject to receipt of payment from the purchaser.

Consign with us
If you have property that you would like to include in an upcoming sale, please feel free to contact us by e-mail with images attached (300kb or less), if possible, or send us photos by mail with all the pertinent information such as dimensions, artist's name, provenance information, etc. Please be advised that we are unable to return photos sent to us by mail. We will respond promptly with preliminary auction estimates and suggested reserves.

If you prefer, please give us a call and we would be happy to discuss your collection and make an appointment to meet with you as time and distance allow.

Appraisals & Consulting
Caroline Ashleigh Associates appraises for Fair Market Value and Replacement Value on a full range of personal property including antiques and decorative arts, fine art, silver, jewelry and fine furnishings.

Caroline Ashleigh Associates is experienced in preparing appraisals for Insurance, Estate Taxes and Charitable Donations. We feel that it is important to know the worth of your possessions and in the case of insurance, to be able to substantiate insurance claims and avoid over or under insuring your valuables. Our estate tax and charitable donation appraisals both meet the standards of the IRS and are fully substantiated by appropriate comparables.

Our appraisal document provides a detailed description of each item including size, style, medium, quality, period and provenance when available.

Caroline Ashleigh Associates produces reliable professional appraisals that meet the requirements of the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice set by the Appraisal Foundation as well as the Code of Ethics governed by the Appraisers Association of America. Fees are based solely on the hours expended. Fees are never contingent on the purpose of the appraisal or the values determined. Please call us for our fees schedule.

Caroline Ashleigh Associates is also happy to offer our clients consultation services on asset liquidation. After many years in the field we are very well equipped to give advice on the appropriate marketplace for your valuables.
